Your state, your housing situation, your symptoms and your animal. It exists to tell you two things before you pay anything: whether your state has a waiting period, and whether you are in the general territory where an evaluation makes sense.

3 · The evaluation
By phone or video, usually 20 to 30 minutes. The therapist is assessing whether you have a condition that substantially limits a major life activity and whether an animal is clinically appropriate. It is a clinical conversation, not a form-filling exercise.
4 · An answer either way
If they approve, the letter is written and sent — typically about 15 minutes later. If they do not, they tell you, and you are not charged for a letter. Roughly speaking, a service where nobody is ever denied is a service where the letters do not mean anything.
5 · Sending it, and what happens next
You will get the letter plus a short guide on writing the accommodation request itself — the step people skip. If your landlord comes back with questions, we will rewrite the letter's formatting at no charge to address reasonable requests.
Timing in five states
Arkansas, California, Iowa, Louisiana and Montana require a 30-day client-provider relationship before an ESA letter can issue. In those states the process runs across two appointments about a month apart. We schedule both up front. There is no compliant shortcut, and we will not pretend otherwise to close a sale.

About the PSD letter: it is documentation from a licensed therapist, not a certificate or an ID. Under the ADA, public access comes from your dog being individually trained to do work or tasks for your disability. Businesses are allowed to ask only two questions and are not allowed to require paperwork. Nobody can sell you access rights — anyone who says otherwise is selling a novelty.
You are charged only after a therapist approves you. We may place a temporary authorization hold on your card beforehand to confirm it is valid; a hold is not a charge and is released if you are not approved.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the evaluation really with a person?
Yes. A licensed therapist, by phone or video. If a service is issuing letters without any live contact, ask yourself what the license on the letter is actually attesting to.
What happens to my information?
Your clinical information stays with the therapist. Landlords receive the letter, which does not include your diagnosis.
Can I get both an ESA and a PSD letter?
They serve different purposes and most people need one or the other. The therapist will tell you which fits. Comparison here.
