A legitimate ESA letter is one page from an Indiana-licensed mental health professional. It is not a certificate, a registration or an ID card, and in Fort Wayne it is used for one thing: asking a housing provider for an exception to its pet policy.
Indiana has no statutory waiting period, so an Indiana-licensed therapist can evaluate you and, if you qualify, your letter typically arrives by email about 15 minutes after approval. The evaluation is a real appointment by phone or video, and the therapist can say no. That is what makes the letter hold up when a property manager checks it.
Indiana has its own fair housing law, but how its agency treats untrained emotional support animals after HUD's May 2026 change is still settling, so documentation quality matters more than it used to. Fort Wayne adds its own layer: Fort Wayne human relations ordinance.

Therapists do not work from a list of approved diagnoses. They look at how a condition affects your daily life and whether the animal eases it. Common examples among Fort Wayne clients:
Three steps. You are not charged for a letter unless the therapist approves you.
Answer a few questions about your situation. It is free, it takes a couple of minutes, and it tells you up front whether Indiana has a waiting period.
You speak with an Indiana-licensed therapist about your symptoms and what your animal does for you.
If you are approved, your signed letter is emailed within about 15 minutes, ready to attach to your request to a Fort Wayne landlord.
A live appointment with someone who can decline. That is the difference between a letter and a purchased certificate.
Every letter is signed by a therapist licensed where you live, with the license number on the page for your landlord to check.
Most letters reach your inbox about 15 minutes after the therapist approves you.
A card hold confirms the booking. You are charged for a letter only when the therapist issues one.
Email or hand your landlord a short request: you have a disability-related need for your animal and are asking for an exception to the pet rule. Attach the letter.
A landlord may verify the need. They are not entitled to your diagnosis or medical records.
Note when you sent the request and how they responded. Silence for weeks is itself worth recording.
Ask for the reason in writing, then contact Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission or Indiana Civil Rights Commission. A HUD complaint has a one-year window.

Fort Wayne property managers see a lot of ESA paperwork. A letter missing any of these is easy to reject.
Out-of-state signatures are the most common reason letters fail.

That you have a disability and the animal helps with it — never the diagnosis.
Most landlords treat a letter older than 12 months as stale.
A purchased certificate undermines an otherwise good letter.
A psychiatric service dog is trained to do specific work, such as grounding you during a flashback or guiding you out of a crowd. If that describes your dog, a PSD letter records those tasks, and trained animals are what HUD still enforces for after May 2026.
Pricing
The same flat price as everywhere in Indiana. No subscription, and no charge for a letter unless an Indiana-licensed therapist approves you.
About the PSD letter: it is documentation from a licensed therapist, not a certificate or an ID. Under the ADA, public access comes from your dog being individually trained to do work or tasks for your disability. Businesses are allowed to ask only two questions and are not allowed to require paperwork. Nobody can sell you access rights — anyone who says otherwise is selling a novelty.
You are charged only after a therapist approves you. We may place a temporary authorization hold on your card beforehand to confirm it is valid; a hold is not a charge and is released if you are not approved.
100% refund if your landlord denies your ESA. If your housing provider refuses the accommodation after you submit a letter we issued, we refund what you paid in full. Full terms, including what a claim needs, on our refund policy page.
