About 22.8% of households in West Jordan rent their home, the lowest renter share among Utah's five largest cities. With a median gross rent of $1,757 a month, the right building is hard enough to find without a pet policy ruling it out.

Think of an ESA letter as evidence, not permission. It is a licensed therapist's written confirmation that you have a disability-related need for your animal, and West Jordan renters use it to ask a landlord to set aside a pet rule as an accommodation.
Utah has no statutory waiting period, so a Utah-licensed therapist can evaluate you and, if you qualify, your letter typically arrives by email about 15 minutes after approval. The evaluation is a real appointment by phone or video, and the therapist can say no. That is what makes the letter hold up when a property manager checks it.
Utah has its own fair housing law, but how its agency treats untrained emotional support animals after HUD's May 2026 change is still settling, so documentation quality matters more than it used to.

22.8% of West Jordan households rent, the lowest renter share among Utah's five largest cities. Median gross rent is $1,757 a month — the highest median rent of Utah's five largest cities, against $1,414 in Salt Lake City.
For a West Jordan renter with an assistance animal, the practical problem is rarely the law — it is the listing that says "no pets" or "cats only, under 25 lbs." An accommodation request is how you ask for that rule to be set aside.

Three layers apply to a West Jordan rental. The strongest one that covers you decides your case.
Our review did not confirm a West Jordan or county fair housing ordinance covering disability, so this page relies on Utah and federal law. If one applies to your building, it can only add protection.
Utah Code § 57-21-5 — Utah Fair Housing Act — discriminatory practices. Complaints: Utah Antidiscrimination and Labor Division (UALD).
The Fair Housing Act still requires landlords to consider accommodation requests. Since May 22, 2026, HUD itself pursues complaints only for individually trained animals; your private right to sue is unchanged. What changed →

Therapists do not work from a list of approved diagnoses. They look at how a condition affects your daily life and whether the animal eases it. Common examples among West Jordan clients:
Three steps. You are not charged for a letter unless the therapist approves you.
Start with a short screening so you know whether an evaluation makes sense for you before you book or pay anything.
You speak with a Utah-licensed therapist about your symptoms and what your animal does for you.
If you are approved, your signed letter is emailed within about 15 minutes, ready to attach to your request to a West Jordan landlord.
We do not sell certificates, vests or ID cards, because they carry no legal weight and can weaken your request.
$129 for up to two animals. No subscription, no renewal auto-charge, no add-on "registration."
Your letter confirms a need without naming a diagnosis, and your clinical information is handled under HIPAA.
Our guidance reflects HUD's May 2026 change and Utah's own rules, so you are not working from outdated advice.
Put it in writing. Two or three sentences are enough, plus your letter; a landlord's own "ESA form" is optional, not a requirement.
Verification of the license is fair; a demand for your medical file is not.
Save a copy of everything you send and receive, with dates. Paper trails win disputes.
Ask for the reason in writing, then contact Disability Law Center or Utah Antidiscrimination and Labor Division (UALD). A HUD complaint has a one-year window.
Template and walkthrough: writing a reasonable accommodation request →
West Jordan property managers see a lot of ESA paperwork. A letter missing any of these is easy to reject.
Out-of-state signatures are the most common reason letters fail.
Managers check it against the Utah licensing board.
That you have a disability and the animal helps with it — never the diagnosis.
Most landlords treat a letter older than 12 months as stale.
A purchased certificate undermines an otherwise good letter.
If your dog is individually trained to perform tasks for a psychiatric disability — interrupting a panic attack, deep pressure, waking you from a nightmare — a psychiatric service dog letter may fit better. After May 2026, trained animals are also where federal housing enforcement is focused.
Pricing
The same flat price as everywhere in Utah. No subscription, and no charge for a letter unless a Utah-licensed therapist approves you.
About the PSD letter: it is documentation from a licensed therapist, not a certificate or an ID. Under the ADA, public access comes from your dog being individually trained to do work or tasks for your disability. Businesses are allowed to ask only two questions and are not allowed to require paperwork. Nobody can sell you access rights — anyone who says otherwise is selling a novelty.
You are charged only after a therapist approves you. We may place a temporary authorization hold on your card beforehand to confirm it is valid; a hold is not a charge and is released if you are not approved.
100% refund if your landlord denies your ESA. If your housing provider refuses the accommodation after you submit a letter we issued, we refund what you paid in full. Full terms, including what a claim needs, on our refund policy page.
Questions
Yes, for housing, when it comes from a therapist licensed in Utah after a real evaluation. It supports a reasonable accommodation request to your landlord; it does not register your animal or give it public access.
Utah has no statutory waiting period, so a Utah-licensed therapist can evaluate you and, if you qualify, your letter typically arrives by email about 15 minutes after approval.
Since HUD's May 2026 change, a fee waiver for an untrained emotional support animal is no longer automatic federally. Ask for it in writing; whether it is required now depends on Utah law and your landlord. Damage is always chargeable. How fees work now →
Yes, if the therapist finds that each animal helps with your disability. The $129 letter covers up to two animals; $199 covers three or more.
An association is a housing provider, so it has to consider the request instead of pointing at its own rules. It can still deny on the usual narrow grounds. Requests to HOAs and condo boards →
Locally: Disability Law Center. Statewide: Utah Antidiscrimination and Labor Division (UALD). Federally: a HUD complaint within one year, or a private Fair Housing Act claim within two.
They must consider the request, but may deny it for a direct threat, substantial damage, undue burden, an exempt property or documentation that is not credible. Ask for any denial in writing. Disability Law Center can help you respond. If you are denied →
No. A landlord may verify that you have a disability-related need for the animal. They are not entitled to your diagnosis or your medical records, and a good letter does not include either.
